Oh man this is so awesome.
The way one feels when seeing or visiting an old school or college they used to go to; well this is what I feel anyway :D Plus I couldn’t resist making a GIF out of this clip of Megatron from Beast Wars!
"and that’s when i started swearing."
OOC: Ah man i love Roddy… As much as we love to go wow what an shallow egotistical Aft Hat… there is apart of us that realize that we see a lot of ourselves in his persona. Its the side of our self we prefer to not talk about. the ego (or self esteem issues) and the obvious posturing in a desire to be acceptable by our peers.
At least I personally do… Like all of us He really truly means well but there is that undeniably selfish part of him that fuels many of his actions. In this way he is “human” to us. He is flawed and tries to hide it with his exuberant displays and mannerisms because deep down inside i think he just wants to be liked but does not know the right way to go about it.
To be accepted as a hero/ leader… because in his mind that is the highest goal because that is who the role models he emulates are, like Optimus Prime.
To me its kind of tragic tho because when you see Optimus Prime you see someone who is War weary and very ready to shed those responsibilities and be free of that weight of leadership. I think Roddy is going to learn what being a leader is truly about and its not going to be what he expected or necessarily wanted if hes not already begging to see that now, tho i think hes still stubborn enough hes still got a ways to go. Even Optimus Prime has called him out on his selfishness and seemingly unbreakable/inflated self worth even after such a horrible coverup.
However selfish/ Hotheaded/ idiotic Roddy may be you cannot deny he at least tries to get shit done however reckless and misguided at times.
I have to hope he is learning hard lessons and eventually there will come a breaking point where his desire to simply be a hero will turn into a genuine desire to do good by his fellow mech not for his own gain but out of true LEARNED empathy.
and I honestly believe true empathy cannot be gained without first experianceing hardship and loss for oneself.
keep in mind the people around you or in Roddys case his charges ont he ship are more important then his own personal goals for the desired acceptance by those same people. They matter even if they don’t like him per say. because A person far out values an intangible feeling or ideal. Leadership in this way is very much a sacrifice because often times this is the case.
He needs to come to terms with that. you cant be liked by everyone in the position hes in but that should not keep him from taking responsibility and protecting the ones he promised he would lead. His ego should not matter either way. When he gives up that act then Maybe he will have learned what it means to be a true mech of character.
I personally view it kind of like this… The more you worry about what others think the more they will judge you (or you will think they are).
The more you be yourself, become less self absorbed… in the process you may come to truly care about others and in doing so they may be more likely to accept you for who you are.
The Classic Doctor seen in the mini-episode Time Crash wasn’t the Fifth Doctor, he was the Sixth Doctor in disguise trying to ruin his reputation.
